Christmas is a time for giving, and last Christmas, Monsoon and Accessorize set out to explore ways to create a charity initiative that would embrace this concept. It is the busiest time of the year for retailers, and the idea was to ask customers, at a time when footfall is at its highest, if they would be happy to add .50c to their bill when paying for their purchases, which would be donated to Hospice.
Once donations from all the shops were collected, Monsoon and Accessorize added a donation of their own towards this very worthy cause that so many people hold dear, in order to show appreciation for their sterling work and to hopefully make a small difference to patients and families undergoing challenging times.
The donation was presented to Hospice Malta at their flagship store in Bisazza Street, Sliema on 18th February 2022, and was greatly appreciated by Hospice. Monsoon and Accessorize are hoping to make this a yearly initiative, so that once customers are aware that they can really help by just adding on a small amount to their bill, the process will run more smoothly and hopefully greater amounts will be collected each year. Hospice Malta offers its services through a professional multidisciplinary team along with the assistance of a number of volunteers. The patient-centered palliative care offered, targets the relief of pain and other physical symptoms, as well as emotional, psycho-social, and spiritual issues. Bereavement support is also an integral part of the services provided. Additionally, education, advice and promotion of palliative care remain at the core of Hospice Malta’s services.
Hospice’s education unit provides educational sessions at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels in addition to providing in-service training to staff and volunteers to ensure that they have the necessary knowledge and skills.
